Chief Lake is located just north of Silver Pass in the central portion of the John Muir Trail in California. It's quite a hike to get to from any direction. On this particular day I arrived early and couldn't believe how hot it was for such high elevation. I kicked back for the entire afternoon, watching the warm wind whip up fantastical sparkles on the water.
