Pon Lepotek

A typical late afternoon scene in the "Pon Lepotek" neighborhood in the Saint Lucian village of Laborie. I lived close by this location while I was a Peace Corps volunteer. This location was a favorite of mine because of the wonderful afternoon light and the lively community atmosphere in this wonderful fishing village. On the left a woman carries water, in the center Teacher Udra good-naturedly reprimands a child, on the right a friend combs another's hair, and in the background neighbors pass the time chatting. The white house in the center was the first concrete home in Laborie.
