Rhapsody

This is the first painting I ever completed of my now wife. At the time I wanted to explore pattern and light, gesture and color -all in a way I had not tried before. Using a palette I saw in El Greco's work while copying at the MET, I tried to create a portrait by using the design and the hands and the feel of the piece as much as using the face as a means of expression.
