The main reason I painted this scene is because this neighbourhood, where I did a lot of growing up, is now changing due to gentrification. What was once an affordable waterfront neighbourhood with all the amenities of the city and a cheap grocery store, is now welcoming condominiums and high end boutiques and restaurants. In years or decades from now this view might drastically change. The view of the lake might disappear as building development progresses. I hope this painting preserves a place I reluctantly want to see modernize, though change is inevitable. When this place becomes too expensive for the long term residents, where will they go?
