Are You Sleeping?

This oil painting was a realization of one of those lucky moments. At a photo shoot, I wandered into this scene. The models agreed to reenact it for me. As the painting itself progressed, I was largely focused on the two models, but needed a vertical element. As I was trying to make up some tree trunks to put into the painting, an image of horse legs keep popping into my mind. After resisting for awhile, I decided, 'Why not?' I think it worked. I thought the title added an element of mystery as to what was happening between my two main characters.
