Sunshine is painted in my favorite medium, open acrylics, using a limited palette of cadmium red light, cadmium yellow primrose, ultramarine blue, phthalo green and titanium white. My inspiration for painting her was how the sunshine and shadows mimic the very coloring of fawns. My studio looks out over our wooded mountainside where we feed the deer regularly. Though I do not touch them, I get close enough when I feed them to observe their beauty... especially those eyes! Though I worked from photos in painting the details of the fawn, I also relied on sketching them from life. I painted the mountainside largely from life, as it appeared out my studio window. I worked over the whole painting, dividing it into warm and cool shapes and proceeded to paint smaller and smaller shapes within those shapes until I was pleased with it.
