The volcanic peaks of the American West are mesmerizing. From Washington's Mt. Ranier, Oregon's Mt. Hood, and on into California where Mt. Shasta reigns supreme. There is a long sweeping curve on highway 299 near Burney California where the view unfolding can pose danger to a driver distracted by its power. Mt. Shasta, Mt. Lassen, and other volcanic snow capped peaks rise above the valley far below. Shasta is a sacred peak and dominates the skyline for at least 100 miles in every direction.
