The Ktunaxa are the Indigenous People who have occupied the area encompassed by the Kootenay and Columbia Rivers in what is now southeast British Columbia and a portion of northern Montana and Idaho. Before retiring, I worked in this are for 17 years, and have many memories of this area that I want to record in paintings. This painting is my first project. It is a scene of the Rocky Mountains and the Kootenay River at a point just north of where the Kootenay River flows into the Koocanusa reservoir. When the snow is on the mountains and the larches and the aspens are golden, this area has a special magic, which I’ve tried to capture.
