Along the Oregon coast, clam diggers can be seen scouring the beach at night, lantern held just so, looking for tell-tale dimples in the wet sand. The volatile coastal weather frequently has a storm brewing on the horizon, as shown in the painting. Not sure he will get any clams before the storm rolls in!
