This is oil on board. This egret was in a lily pond in Florida. I took him out of the weeds and ferns that were obscuring him in the photo, and amplfied the colors and textures. There are ponds in two parks near my home where I frequently walk, and so they helped me form a vision for this painting. I have painted plein air many times, but this is a studio creation.
About me: I didn’t start painting until I was 60. I trained for 3 years with a magnificent artist in Henderson, KY, Chris Thomas. Chris is a still-life and portrait artist, but I wanted to paint landscapes and I wanted to paint plein air, so I took workshops with nationally recognized artists, such as Lori Putnam, Scott Christensen, Frank Serrano, Tom Nachriner, Mary Garrish, and Kentucky artist, Bill Fletcher. It has been 12 years since I first picked up a paint brush, and I believe my best paintings are yet to come.
