Pen y Fan, the highest mountain in South Wales Brecon Beacons was painted after an arduous climb to the summit. Going up was fine but my legs turned to jelly on the way down. I watched soldiers in awe running up and down with full army backpacks. It's just as well old men aren't required to compete. The Beacons are beautiful throughout the year I spent much of my youth hiking them. The painting shows the twin summits of Pen y Fan and Corn Du at 873 m, they were formerly referred to as Cadair Arthur or 'Arthur's Seat'. When we reached the top of Corn Du we thought we were at the summit only to be told we had to proceed to the next summit for Pen - Fan.
