Mid-winter Thaw

Despite having many spectacular vistas to paint not far from where I live, I still sometimes like to zoom into the nooks and crannies of the landscape. This allows me to really zero in on shapes, edges, temperatures, values, composition...all the basic stuff. And I find that with a very ordinary subject, I can sometimes focus more so on those basic painting concepts than on trying to merely record subject matter.
